UPROOTED BY FIL
For us, life has always revolved around the dining table, so it feels only natural that Fil started there too.
Uprooted by Fil is a return to that beginning. It is a way of sharing Fil’s story in the same way we first experienced Shatta: around a big table, with generous food, good conversation, and the kind of informal chaos you only really get at Teta’s (grandma's) house.
This summer, we will be hosting a series of lunches across London and Amsterdam, bringing the feeling of lunch at Teta’s into our own world. Familiar, but a little different, with plenty of Shatta to go around.
First lunch: Saturday 13 June, Amsterdam.
London Lunch: TBC
What is Uprooted by Fil?
"Uprooted" speaks to our heritage as Palestinians of diaspora, told through the lens of food.
Uprooted from our original lands and replanted in new ones, we have had to adapt, improvise, and keep going. Our food has done the same. It is the food we grew up with, shaped by new places, new ingredients, and the cultures that have become part of who we are.
Family lunches are where our love of food really began. They are also where our culture stayed constant, familiar, and full of life.
Uprooted by Fil is our invitation to the family lunch.
What to Expect?
A full table (come hungry).
Food served generously, family-style.
A short welcome from us, then plenty of time to eat, talk, stay, and settle in.
Each lunch will be a set menu*, with a small selection of non-alcoholic** drinks available, and coffee/tea at the end.
*Vegetarian options will be available, however we are unfortunately unable to accommodate vegan or gluten free diets.
**The rules around alcoholic beverages will be set on an event-by-event basis.
