It's official. Health really is wealth.
People are now spending upwards of $70bn on GLP-1's worldwide, the injections that suppress appetite and help you lose weight.
For those on GLP-1's meals are now smaller and less frequent, which makes good flavour more important than ever - with only a limited number of bites of food per day, you can't afford for any of them to be bad!
This isn't just for people on medication however, the same logic applies for those who are simply watching their weight and trying to eat better:clean, macro-friendly meals with minimal effort and maximum flavour.
The good news is that Shatta provides exactly that. Palestinian Shatta is a naturally clean label condiment, where chillies and peppers undergo natural lacto-fermentation to get to the desired flavour, topped with extra virgin olive oil to finish. Fil's Shatta is made following this exact method. We use all natural ingredients, naturally ferment them, and use fairtrade organic extra virgin olive oil from Palestine to finish.
Low calorie, low in fat, low in sugar (except our Shatta Jam perhaps).
Whether you're on GLP-1 medication or are simply looking for healthy snack alternatives, here are five small dish and snack ideas using Fil Shatta, giving you that effortless burst of fresh heat and flavour, everyday.
1. Bird's Eye Shatta on toast with a boiled egg
Spread Bird's Eye Shatta over a piece of toast and top with a boiled egg cut into slices. A high protein and filling snack or small meal ready in under ten minutes - and it doesn't need a shopping list, just what's already in the fridge.
Best with: Bird's Eye Shatta, the everyday option with heat that builds without taking over.
2. Habanero Shatta with cottage cheese on a cracker
Cottage cheese is one of the easiest ways to get lean protein in, but on its own it's not always the most appetising to some. This is where Habanero Shatta comes in. The exotic fruit flavour and heat is perfect with the cottage cheese. Combined with some crackers, you have a snack you can count on everyday.
Best with: Habanero Shatta, enough heat to cut through the cottage cheese and make it interesting.
3. Shatta and labneh on a bagel
Think cream cheese bagel but Arabic, and with a hit of fresh heat. The cool, creamy and sour labneh is spread generously on a bagel half, topped with your Shatta of choice to add freshness and brightness. Our personal favourite is Bird's Eye Shatta here, but Jalapeno and Habanero also work well if those flavours are what you prefer - if you're feeling like something a bit sweeter and naughtier, then our Shatta Jam is fantastic as well.
Best with: Bird's Eye Shatta or Shatta Jam if you're after more of a treat. The brightness works so well against the tang of the yoghurt, you'll want to keep eating more!
4. Avocado toast with a spoon of shatta
Half an avocado, mashed onto toast, is already a fast source of good fat and fibre. Add a spoonful of Jalapeño Shatta, and it stops being a slightly flat brunch order and starts tasting like something you chose on purpose.
Best with: Jalapeño Shatta, for that herbaceous heat that sits naturally alongside avocado.
5. Tinned fish with shatta for a fast protein hit
Sardines or tuna straight from the tin are one of the quickest ways to get a serious amount of protein into a small meal. On their own, the flavour can get overwhelming quickly. If you like a citrussy, herby tang then Shatta Verde poured over the top alongside some good sourdough bread works beautifully as a fresh, high protein snack or light lunch. If you preferred a more classic Shatta then any of the Bird's Eye, Habanero and Jalapeño Shatta's would work well here too, it all depends on what you prefer!
Best with: Shatta Verde or Jalapeño Shatta, but the Bird's Eye Shatta is also a strong contender here too. Either way, it fits the macros!
Always worth a glance at the label if you're cooking for someone with dietary needs — we trust you've got that covered.
